Kaya Vineyard & Winery
Ridgetop vineyard in Dahlonega with estate-grown wines, Blue Ridge views, and on-site cottages
Best known for: Estate Chardonnay sparkling wine and Bordeaux-style blends
Kaya Vineyard & Winery in Dahlonega, Georgia, is a strong choice for travelers who want mountain scenery to be part of the tasting, not an afterthought. The winery sits on a ridge at 1,600 feet, with vineyard and Blue Ridge Mountain views through twelve-foot tasting room windows. Reclaimed wood and Edison bulbs frame the interior, but the 2,000-square-foot covered deck is the main draw, with live music in the warmer seasons.
The Werkheiser family puts vineyard management at the center of Kaya’s winemaking. Estate-grown fruit anchors the wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon and a traditional-method sparkling wine made from estate Chardonnay, with its bubbles created through fermentation in the bottle. Trifecta blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Merlot. The range also reaches beyond Georgia: Pinot Grigio comes from Sonoma County grapes, while Outcast Cabernet Sauvignon uses Napa Valley fruit. This is not an exclusively estate-grown list.
White, red, and mixed tasting flights give visitors several ways into the range. Children and dogs are welcome, though the on-site cottages are pet-free. For a longer afternoon, charcuterie picnic baskets include wine, meats, cheeses, and accompaniments; orders require 48 hours’ notice. The cottages make Kaya an overnight option as well as a tasting stop.
