Fenn Valley Winery & Vineyards

Fenn Valley Winery & Vineyards is one of the established names in Southwest Michigan wine, family-owned and operating in Fennville since 1973. The estate covers 240 acres about five miles from Lake Michigan, on a sandy ridge chosen specifically for grape growing. That Lake Michigan influence is central here: milder winter temperatures help vines survive, while cooler summer conditions stretch the growing season and give grapes time to ripen without getting baked.

This is a winery built around both experimentation and range. The first vines went in during 1974, with additional plantings following in most years after that, and Fenn Valley continues to test which vinifera and hybrid grapes truly work in this corner of Michigan. It also still produces fruit wines, including Peach, Cherry, and Raspberry bottlings that have earned national recognition. The cellar itself is built into a hillside for natural temperature stability, a practical detail that says a lot about how seriously the operation takes the farming and winemaking side.

For visitors, Fenn Valley offers more than a quick pour at the bar. The Fennville property is the main draw, with reserved tastings, private vineyard picnics, and two educational tours that go into the vineyard, the cellar, or both. The shorter Discovery Tour runs 45 minutes; the Deep Dive stretches to about 1 hour 45 minutes and, from July through October, can include a ride through the rows on the grape train. There is also a downtown Saugatuck tasting room, but the estate visit is what makes Fenn Valley worth the drive.
