Cogdal Vineyards

Cogdal Vineyards is a family-run South Haven winery in the Lake Michigan Shore area, founded in 2008 by Jack and Deb Murdoch on land that has been in the Cogdal family’s agricultural life for generations. The site sits less than half a mile from Lake Michigan, and that lakeshore setting is central to the place: vines grow in a climate moderated by the water, with vineyard views that make the drive feel like part of the visit. The estate currently has seven acres planted, with plans to expand, and the focus stays rooted in Michigan-grown wine.

What gives Cogdal a little more personality than the average roadside stop is how much of the place carries the property itself into the tasting room. Cherry and maple harvested on-site were milled, kiln-dried, and turned into the tasting bar, cabinets, gathering table, and trim, which makes the room feel personal rather than generic. Under the Cogdal Vineyards label and the more playful Little Man Winery label, Jack Murdoch works with both estate fruit and selectively sourced grapes, continuing methods he learned from early winemaker Dan McNulty while leaving room for unusual blends and a more eclectic side of the portfolio.
