Lompoc Wine Trail
The Lompoc Wine Trail connects urban wineries in Lompoc, California, in western Santa Barbara County. Explore tasting rooms clustered in the Industrial Park, near the gateway to the Sta. Rita Hills wine region.
The Lompoc Wine Trail connects urban wineries in Lompoc, California, Santa Barbara County’s westernmost wine-tasting region and the western gateway to the Sta. Rita Hills American Viticultural Area (AVA). Most wineries are concentrated in Lompoc’s Industrial Park, making this a tasting trip built around working winery spaces rather than long drives between vineyard estates.
The industrial setting is part of the appeal: come for what’s being poured, not an estate driveway photo. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay feature prominently, but the trail also offers sparkling wines, Syrah and less-familiar grapes such as Grüner Veltliner. You don’t need to know the names before you arrive; asking what makes a particular wine different is a perfectly good place to start.
How to plan your tasting day
Plan for two or three tastings in a day, with time for lunch and conversation rather than a race through reservations. The main urban cluster keeps travel between visits relatively short, but not every experience takes place there. Vineyard appointments outside town need their own driving time. Check the actual meeting address when booking, rather than assuming every reservation leads to the Industrial Park.
Book your priority visits first. Several wineries operate by appointment only, while others keep regular walk-in hours. A guided tour can take around 90 minutes, so leave more room than you would for a straightforward tasting. Friday and Saturday are useful starting points for planning because several tasting rooms offer late-week hours; Sunday and midweek availability vary. Confirm each stop’s current schedule before setting out, and arrange a designated driver for any driving between tastings.
Where to stay and what to add
Lompoc is the most direct base if the urban wineries are your focus. Buellton also works well if you want to combine the trail with a Sta. Rita Hills driving loop, using Lompoc as the western midpoint. Approaching from the south, Highways 101 and 1 provide access to Lompoc.
Between tastings, make time for the murals on buildings throughout Lompoc. They give you a reason to explore beyond the winery cluster—and a welcome break from another pour. For this trail, matching your visit to tasting-room opening days matters more than chasing a particular season.
