Cairdeas Winery
Rhône-inspired Washington wines in a copper-roofed barn overlooking Lake Chelan’s north shore
Best known for: Rhône-inspired Washington blends and uncommon estate white grapes
Cairdeas Winery’s Lake Chelan Tasting Room in Manson, Washington, pairs Rhône-inspired wines with lake views from a copper-roofed, two-story barn. Founders Charlie and Lacey Lybecker keep the focus on Washington fruit rather than French imitation: Charlie leads winemaking, while Lacey oversees the business and also works on blending, harvest, and bottling. Grenache Blanc, Viognier, Syrah, and Grenache Noir give visitors several entry points into the wines of France’s Rhône Valley without requiring a geography lesson.
The Cairdeas Estate Vineyard in the Lake Chelan American Viticultural Area adds a less familiar angle: Clairette Blanche and Picardan, two white Rhône grapes rarely encountered on Washington tasting routes. Syrah grows on the rocky, southwest-facing slope, with each vine trained on its own post rather than along a trellis. The winery also sources grapes from vineyards elsewhere in Washington, so the tasting offers more than an estate-only view of the region.
Seated flights typically cover two whites and three reds for $20, with the fee waived with a two-bottle purchase. Charcuterie, Mediterranean, and smoked salmon boards make a longer stop practical. The tasting room opens daily, year-round, from noon to 5 p.m.; online reservations accommodate up to six guests. Families have lawn games and snack packs, while leashed dogs stay on the patio, reached by the Puppy Path around the building.
