Cairdeas Winery - Seattle SODO Tasting Room

Rhône-inspired Washington wines at Seattle’s SODO Urbanworks, close to Cairdeas Winery’s West Seattle roots

Best known for: Rhône-inspired Washington blends and uncommon estate white grapes

Cairdeas Winery’s Seattle SODO Tasting Room brings Rhône-inspired Washington wines to SODO Urbanworks, a complex of tasting rooms and restaurants in Seattle, Washington. For founders Charlie and Lacey Lybecker, the location represents a return to familiar ground: the winery’s roots reach back to West Seattle in 2009. Its winemaking home is now Lake Chelan, but this city tasting room puts the wines within reach without the cross-state drive.

Charlie leads the winemaking, drawing on grapes associated with France’s Rhône Valley, including Syrah, Grenache Noir, Mourvèdre, Grenache Blanc and Viognier. Vineyard sources span Washington, from Boushey Vineyards in the Yakima Valley American Viticultural Area to the Cairdeas Estate Vineyard in the Lake Chelan American Viticultural Area. The estate grows two less-familiar white grapes, Clairette Blanche and Picardan—a useful reminder that this Rhône focus extends beyond Syrah.

At SODO, a $20 flight typically covers one white and three reds, with the fee waived with a two-bottle purchase. Glass pours, bottles and build-your-own picnic bundles make a longer afternoon possible, while neighboring tasting rooms make this a practical stop for a multi-winery outing. Children and well-behaved leashed dogs are welcome. Online reservations accommodate up to five guests; larger groups arrange visits directly. The tasting room opens Wednesday through Monday, noon to 6 p.m.
