Walport Family Cellars

Tiny-production Applegate Valley winery with permaculture-grown vineyards and tasting tables between vines and woods

Best known for: Permaculture farming and 40- to 100-case wine production

Eric and Amy Walport own and operate Walport Family Cellars in Oregon’s Applegate Valley, where production runs just 40 to 100 cases per variety and vintage. The vineyards occupy land that includes the family’s former cattle ranch, giving this small operation roots beyond the tasting room. Farming follows permaculture principles, with soil health central to how the couple tends the vines. The scale is a defining feature: these are small batches, not simply small-winery branding.

The tasting room sits between vineyard and forest at 470 Slagle Creek Road in Grants Pass. Bistro tables and gazebos provide places to settle in outdoors, with locally sourced cheeses, breads and charcuterie available alongside tasting flights, glasses and bottles. It is a setting that suits an afternoon stop rather than a quick counter tasting. The tasting room opens Thursday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. For repeat visitors, the wine club offers three bottles four times a year, access to limited-production releases, and complimentary tastings for members and up to three guests.
