Setter Ridge Vineyards

Family-run gravity-flow winery near Kutztown, Pennsylvania, focused on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris

Best known for: Gravity-flow production focused on dry estate-grown wines

Setter Ridge Vineyards near Kutztown, Pennsylvania, pairs a focus on dry wines with a tasting pavilion overlooking sloping vines and the Blue Mountains. The Blair family owns and operates the winery in Berks County’s Lehigh Valley American Viticultural Area. Richard Blair’s love of central French wines provides the inspiration; the family’s generations-long ties to both winemaking and English Setters explain the name.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris anchor the vineyard focus. French-trained winemaking consultant Cathy Peyrot des Gachon oversees production, bringing harvest experience from Burgundy, Oregon, and Australia. The gravity-flow winery uses three levels to move wine with less pumping and limit oxygen exposure. Its lowest level sits within the hillside, keeping the barrel room and stainless-steel tanks at a steady 58 degrees year-round.

Visits center on self-guided flights starting at $10, with preselected options or a four-wine build-your-own flight. Seating extends from indoor tables to the covered patio and lawn, where Adirondack chairs, firepits, and picnic tables make a longer afternoon practical. Patio tables seat up to five; groups larger than eight require advance scheduling and a deposit. Children and leashed, well-behaved pets are welcome. Outside food is permitted only when no food vendor is present and not during happy hours or trivia nights.
