Dunning Estates at The Slope

Converted milking-parlor tasting room on a family farm above Idaho’s Snake River Valley, along the Sunnyslope Wine Trail

Best known for: Tempranillo, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay

Dunning Estates at The Slope in Caldwell, Idaho, pairs a converted milking-parlor tasting room with views across the Snake River Valley. Owners Heather and Brayden Dunning and Kacie and Parker Dunning carry on a family wine legacy that begins with Kyle and Holly Dunning. Their farm near Lizard Butte gives this Sunnyslope Wine Trail stop its character: the agricultural setting is the real thing, not a decorating theme.

The wine selection spans Tempranillo, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, alongside red blends. Named bottlings include Outlaw Malbec, Ranger Red, Oakley Chardonnay, and Colt Steel Chardonnay. There is enough variety here for a group whose wine preferences rarely agree.

The patio and tasting room overlook the valley, making the setting as much a reason to stop as the wine. Across the parking lot, The Slope Mercantile occupies a converted 1978 horse trailer and sells seasonal produce, local honey, flowers, eggs, and handmade goods on summer and fall weekends. The tasting room opens Friday through Sunday, noon to 6 p.m. The visitor address is 19937 Vino Lane—a useful distinction from the separate mailing address.
