Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery
Door Peninsula winery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin pairing cold-hardy estate grapes with Washington-grown reds
Best known for: Wisconsin cold-hardy grapes and Washington-grown dry reds
Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin brings two wine regions to one tasting bar: the Door Peninsula and Washington State. Behind the winery are Wisconsin natives Eric and Amy Gale, whose combined 12 years in Washington’s wine industry inform the business they establish in 2020. Eric brings a master’s degree in viticulture and handles winemaking; Amy brings experience in tasting room management and event planning. Their 38-acre property on Willow Road holds the vineyard, production facility, and tasting room, half a mile off Highway 42.
The distinction here is more than geography. Cold-hardy estate grapes—including Marquette, Petite Pearl, Itasca, and La Crescent—share the portfolio with Washington-grown European varieties and bold, dry reds. That makes Anchored Roots a useful stop for a group split between familiar wine styles and curiosity about what Wisconsin grows. Door County artist Andrea Naylor’s work also gives the Wisconsin wine labels a local connection beyond the grapes.
The tasting room operates year-round, with five tastes for $15 and one tasting fee waived per bottle purchased. Bar tastings run first-come, first-served; larger groups contact the winery ahead. Three-wine flights, lounge seating, and a dog-friendly patio offer a slower-paced alternative. Local cheese, charcuterie, and chocolate are available, but outside food and drinks stay off the table. Scheduled, roughly hour-long tours with Eric cost $28 and include a tasting and souvenir glass.
