Hermann Wine Trail

The Hermann Wine Trail follows a roughly 20-mile route around Hermann and New Haven, Missouri, connecting historic wine cellars, country wineries and year-round tasting rooms.

The Hermann Wine Trail is a roughly 20-mile winery route through the Hermann and New Haven area of Missouri, combining historic wine cellars with country tasting rooms. Its appeal is the contrast: you can spend part of the day among old brick buildings and stone cellars, then head out to a farm setting. Leave time for the places themselves, not just what’s being poured.

How to plan your visit

Hermann is the most practical base if you want restaurants, shops and a choice of bed-and-breakfasts and inns around your wine plans. New Haven makes sense as a starting point if you want to explore that end of the route first. For an unhurried day trip, choose a small selection of tasting rooms around Hermann rather than trying to cover the whole trail. With a weekend, give the New Haven area its own time instead of squeezing it in before closing.

This is a driving route, not a tasting-room crawl you can complete entirely on foot. Arrange a designated driver or transportation before you go. The independently operated Hermann Trolley does not cover the entire trail, so check its route against your plans before booking.

The trail is open year-round, but individual winery hours vary. Check each tasting room’s schedule, fees and reservation policies before setting out, especially for groups or special tasting experiences. Outside-food policies also differ; permission to picnic outdoors does not necessarily mean you can bring food inside.

When to go and what to book

Choose a weekday for fewer crowds. If food pairings are the draw, plan around the annual event calendar:

  • February: Chocolate Wine Trail.
  • April: A wine-and-tapas pairing event.
  • June: Farmers’ Table Wine Trail, highlighting food from local farmers.
  • July: Berries & BarBQ Wine Trail.
  • November: Holiday Fare Wine Trail.
  • December: Say Cheese Wine Trail.

Advance ticket purchase is required for pairing events, and participants must be at least 21. The $35 ticket includes a featured wine-and-food pairing at each participating winery and a souvenir glass—not transportation or additional tasting-room tastings. You can start at any participating winery and visit in any order.

Events take place regardless of weather, so plan transportation accordingly. Wineries cannot prepare special event foods for visitors with food allergies; check the menu before committing. For travelers who would rather linger over a tasting than follow an event schedule, an ordinary weekday is the better fit.
