G. Husmann Wine Co.
Missouri–California wine blends honoring George Husmann, with a creekside tasting room patio in downtown Hermann
Best known for: Blending Missouri and California wines across grape varieties
G. Husmann Wine Co. in Hermann, Missouri, makes the Missouri–California connection literal: its wines blend grapes from both states. Winemaker Paul LeRoy brings more than 40 years of vineyard and winemaking experience in Hermann to a collection honoring George Husmann, a major figure in both states’ wine histories. This is not a tasting room devoted exclusively to Missouri fruit; the cross-state blends are the point.
The George Husmann red combines Missouri Norton with California Cabernet Franc and Nebbiolo, while Captain Manwaring pairs Missouri Chambourcin with those same California varieties. Whites range from dry Louise Husmann, made with Vidal Blanc, Cayuga White and Sauvignon Blanc, to semi-dry Two Sisters. There is also a dry Rosé of Hermann and a sparkling Cuvée of Hermann that brings together Missouri Vidal Blanc and California Chardonnay.
The tasting room sits at First and Gutenberg streets in downtown Hermann, with a patio overlooking Frene Creek. Wines are available exclusively here, making a visit necessary for anyone hoping to take a bottle home. Glass pours, local cheese and sausage, and permission to bring a picnic give the patio a purpose beyond the tasting. The tasting room opens daily, with spring and summer service extending until 6 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
