Bucks County Wine Trail
The Bucks County Wine Trail is a self-guided route through wineries in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with stops near historic towns, farmland and the Delaware River.
The Bucks County Wine Trail is a self-guided route connecting wineries across Bucks County, Pennsylvania, northeast of Philadelphia. There is no designated beginning or end: choose a pocket of the county, check tasting room hours and build the day around the places you most want to visit.
The appeal is the variety of settings, not a single tasting-room formula. You might taste in a converted farm building, on a historic estate or beside a vineyard, with outdoor seating and seasonal activities at some locations. Wine lists range from dry reds and whites to sweeter styles and fruit wines. You don’t need to know your grape varieties before arriving; tell the person pouring what you usually enjoy.
How to plan your route
This is a driving trail, not a walkable cluster. Locations stretch from the Newtown and Washington Crossing area through central Bucks County toward Perkasie and Erwinna. Nearby tastings can be easy to pair, but crossing the county takes more planning. Group visits geographically rather than zigzagging between opposite ends.
- Keep a day manageable: Two or three winery visits leave room for lunch and time to linger. Allow roughly an hour to an hour and a half per stop, including travel, tasting and browsing; add extra time for longer drives.
- Make a weekend of it: The trail recommends spreading visits over two days. New Hope makes a useful base for a river-focused weekend, Doylestown for central Bucks County, and Newtown for the southern end.
- Budget by the tasting room: There is no trail-wide ticket. Tastings generally cost $6–20 per person at each winery, with possible extra charges for specialty wines or food pairings.
- Check before leaving: Each winery sets its own hours and experiences, and some open only on weekends. Groups should call ahead and reserve. The trail does not provide transportation, so arrange a designated driver or book transportation separately.
When to visit
Late spring through fall is a good choice if outdoor seating is part of your plan. A weekend gives you more options when tasting rooms have limited schedules, though it is worth confirming reservations before setting out.
For a seasonal reason to return, the annual Nouveau Celebration in November highlights newly released wines and other new or limited-edition offerings. December brings the annual Holiday Celebration. Activities and hours vary by location, so pick your destinations first and check what each has planned rather than expecting an identical event everywhere.
