U Bar Wines and Winery
Family winery on historic ranchland in Bellville, Texas, with cattle labels and Sunday live music
Best known for: Sweet sparkling wines, fruit wines, and dry reds
U Bar Wines and Winery in Bellville, Texas, pairs a family cattle-ranch identity with wines that range from dry reds to sweet sparkling pours. Edwin and Jessica Ueckert’s winery dates to 2020, but the land remains in the family since the 1860s. The cattle on the labels belong to the ranch’s own herd, managed under the Texas-registered U-BAR brand. That connection gives this Texas Independence Wine Trail stop its personality: the cows are more than label decoration.
Sweet-wine drinkers have plenty of choices, including Cattleman’s Choice, an almond-accented sparkling Moscato, peach fruit wine, and chocolate-and-caramel-infused Carmelato dessert wine. Dry options include Cabernet Sauvignon, French-oak-aged Merlot, and B2 Hardy Red Blend, which combines Nebbiolo and Texas Zinfandel. Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, and a semidry Grenache rosé broaden the choices. Most glasses cost $9–$10, with bottles ranging from $25–$35.
The tasting room opens Friday afternoons and from noon on weekends, with no reservation needed. Sunday is the strongest reason to linger: live music runs from 2–5 p.m., with no cover charge, and the tasting room stays open until 6. Leashed dogs are welcome on the outdoor patio.
