Amsler Hills Winery

Texas-and-California wine blends on 80 acres of historic Amsler family land in Sealy

Best known for: Blanc Du Bois and Texas–California grape blends

Amsler Hills Winery in Sealy, Texas, connects Kevin’s Northern California roots with Lisa’s Amsler family heritage through wines that blend grapes from both regions. The winery occupies 80 acres of family land with a history reaching back to the 1840s. Six generations cultivate that connection, with the property passing largely through the women of the Amsler, Hillbolt, Gross, Winkel, and Lange families.

Blanc Du Bois anchors the Texas side of the cellar. The dry white uses only Austin County grapes, while Bluebonnet Blend pairs Cat Spring Blanc Du Bois with California Sauvignon Blanc for a white with a little sweetness. Signature rosé Castilleja takes the cross-regional approach further, combining Texas Blanc Du Bois and Black Spanish with New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and California Syrah and Malbec. Tres Amigos brings together California Zinfandel, Sonoma Valley Syrah, and Cat Spring Black Spanish. At the sweeter end, Alma’s Grape Jelly nods to Lisa’s great-grandmother’s homemade jelly. Pickled Habanero leaves little doubt that the winery also makes room for experimentation.

The setting is rolling countryside, with bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush, and westward views. Visits run Friday through Sunday; Saturday hours can extend beyond 4 p.m. when no event is scheduled. Private tastings, weddings, and parties are available by inquiry.
