Tensley Wine
Intimate tasting room in historic farmstead setting
Best known for: Syrah-driven wines from Santa Barbara County
Founded in 1998 by Joey Tensley, Tensley Wines started with a simple idea: to create well-priced, Syrah-driven wines that highlight the unique terroir of Santa Barbara County. Initially, they produced just one hundred cases per year, but the winery has since grown to make about 5,000 cases annually.
The winery has earned recognition over the years, including a spot in Wine Spectator's Top 100 and high scores from critics like Robert Parker. Joey's interest in winemaking began early—at the age of twelve, during a winery tour in France. He went on to work at several esteemed wineries before founding Tensley.
Tensley's focus is on showcasing the microclimates of the region, with a focus on Rhône varietals sourced from local vineyards. They have a tasting room in Los Olivos, and the winery continues to prioritize quality and affordability in all they do.
