Solminer

Austrian-inspired natural wines from a certified biodynamic and regenerative organic estate in Los Olivos, California

Best known for: Austrian-inspired natural wines and certified biodynamic estate farming

Anna and David deLaski give Solminer in Los Olivos, California, an Austrian accent: Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch and dry Muscat take a prominent place alongside Syrah. Anna’s Austrian roots help shape the focus, and annual production stays around 2,000 cases. For travelers looking beyond the usual California grape varieties, that makes Solminer a useful stop.

The couple’s deLanda Farm and Vineyard holds organic, biodynamic and Regenerative Organic certifications. Chickens, donkeys, sheep and bees share the property with vines, fruit trees and native plants; compost and herbal teas support vineyard health. The wines extend beyond the Austrian varieties to Syrah made as rosé, sparkling wine, a blend and a single-vineyard red, with additional grapes coming from neighboring vineyards.

The Solminer tasting room sits at 2890 Grand Avenue by the flagpole in downtown Los Olivos, with indoor and outdoor seating. It opens daily at 11 a.m., closing at 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday, except on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. Walk-ins are welcome; reservations are recommended for groups of four to eight. First-Saturday farm walks offer a closer look at the vines and animals for $25 per nonmember guest, including children. The tour excludes tasting; the tasting room is a separate stop five minutes away by car.
