LaPierre Winery
Organic estate wines and a seasonal fruit market overlooking Washington’s Yakima Valley in Zillah
Best known for: Organic estate-grown wines led by full-bodied Merlot
LaPierre Winery in Zillah, Washington, pairs organic estate-grown wines with a family farming operation whose roots reach back to 1985. Mark LaPierre’s first cherry orchard in nearby Granger provides the starting point; Mark and Marni LaPierre’s work now extends across multiple fruit varieties, a warehouse operation, and wine. That agricultural identity gives the tasting room something more specific than another vineyard backdrop: a seasonal market selling the farm’s organic fruit, including Dark Sweet and Rainier cherries, blueberries, peaches, nectarines, and apples.
Organic estate vineyards, farmed sustainably for low yields, anchor the wines. Merlot is the signature bottling, with the 2018 Rattlesnake Hills American Viticultural Area release offering a full-bodied, oak-aged style with cherry and cranberry flavors. It is a natural starting point for visitors interested in the winery’s red wines.
The tasting lounge favors conversation-style seating and table service, with wines available by the flight, glass, or bottle. Outside, the high-top terrace deck looks across Yakima Valley farmland toward Mount Adams and Mount Rainier. Friday-through-Sunday afternoon hours make LaPierre a weekend stop; private tastings are available by arrangement.
