Dune Bird Winery
Design-forward Leelanau Peninsula winery and espresso bar on M-22 with Dry Riesling and cause-driven releases
Best known for: Dry Riesling and broad cool-climate lineup
Dune Bird Winery sits on Michigan’s Leelanau Peninsula along M-22 between Leland and Northport, and it clearly wants to be more than another scenic wine stop. The draw here is the mash-up: a tasting room that pours wine, cider, and espresso in a setting built as much for lingering as for tasting. Dune Bird leans into a less-rules, more-personality version of Northern Michigan wine culture, which makes it a good fit for travelers who like wine but do not want the usual ceremony around it.
The wine list covers a broad Northern Michigan range, including Dry Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Unoaked Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Late Harvest Riesling, Pink Plover Rosé, Pure Leland bubbly, and the red blend AV8. Dry Riesling stands out in particular, earning Platinum at the 2026 TEXSOM International Wine Awards. Dune Bird also gives visitors a couple of bottles with real local identity: Pink Plover Rosé supports Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes and piping plover conservation, while Woolsey Red sends $2 per bottle to the Save Woolsey Airport Terminal Project in Northport.
For a visit, expect a social stop rather than a hushed tasting bar. Live music runs on Thursdays and Sundays, and the address on North Manitou Trail makes Dune Bird an easy add-on while driving the Leelanau Peninsula wine route. It is the kind of place where coffee can start the visit and a glass of Riesling can finish it.
