Dos Mariposas Vineyard

Rogue Valley family farm in Medford pairing estate wines and apple–pear cider with 2,000 lavender plants

Best known for: Estate Pinotage, Chenin Blanc, and apple–pear hard cider

Dos Mariposas Vineyards and Lavender Farm in Medford, Oregon, gives a Rogue Valley tasting stop a distinctly agricultural setting: six acres of wine grapes, 2,000 lavender plants, and more than 150 fruit trees. Mark and Terri tend the multigenerational farm alongside Judy and John. The name means “two butterflies,” a reference to daughters Amelia and Adeline. Lavender is more than scenery here; the family harvests it by hand and distills essential oils onsite.

The vineyard’s less-expected grapes are a good reason to pay attention. Alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, the plantings include Pinotage and Chenin Blanc, inspired by Judy’s visit to family in South Africa. Linda Donovan of Pallet Wine Company and Chris Graves of Naumes Crush and Fermentation make the wines. Estate-grown apples and pears also become small-batch hard cider, giving visitors another option alongside wine flights and glasses.

The family-friendly setup has substance: a sandbox near the lavender field, outdoor games, an indoor activity area, and a children’s charcuterie board. Walk-ins are welcome; reservations make sense for larger groups and busy days. Leashed dogs can join visitors outdoors, while only service animals enter the tasting room. June into early July brings lavender color, and the two-bedroom Sleeping Butterfly Guest House offers a longer stay with a private patio overlooking the vineyard, pond, and lavender field.
