The Review
Delaney, designed to resemble an old French chateau, is the original winery experience in the heart of North Texas.
The Place:  Built as a replica of an elegant French style chateau and situated on 10 acres of lush vineyards consisting of Cynthiana grapes, Delaney Vineyards and Winery is less than 10 minutes from downtown Grapevine. Delaney can handle large crowds with its ample parking and has spacious grounds that you are encouraged to explore. You can easily enjoy a lazy afternoon here, taking in a free tour (held every hour) with the knowledgeable and friendly staff as they extol the virtues of their true Texas wines.
The Experience:  As you arrive and enter the frescoed foyer of the winery, you are greeted by a smiling staff member. Vinum Laetificat Cor Hominis or Wine gladdens the heart is inscribed overhead as you enter the Grand Barrel Room and it is the slogan that both the owner and staff live by. The black Italian granite bar is immediately to your right but you will be captured by the ambience of the space. High, exposed brick walls lined with new standard oak barrels as well as old 1500+ gallon casks soar up to the dark wooden beams above. The mellow lighting makes even such a vast room feel inviting and romantic. You could pull up a stool here at the bar but why not slip out to the Crush Pad and enjoy the scene. A beautiful covered patio with sweeping views of the vineyards invites you to share a glass of wine as the sun sets behind the vines. Back by the reception area there is a small gift shop with Delaney wines available for purchase as well as many wine-related offerings.
The Wines: For more than 20 years, owner Jerry Delaney has worked tirelessly to present the best Texas has to offer in wine. His main vineyard is located in Lamesa, Texas and at 100 acres makes up the majority of production. Since 1999, Delaney has won more than 120 medals in national and international wine competitions. Delaney’s fruity Texas Rose can be purchased for $17, and their Cynthiana wine, named for the variety of grapes grown at the Grapevine vineyard, is a staff favorite and priced at $25. The Chardonnay, grown in Lamesa, is by far the best from Texas and a bargain at $20. Tastings allow you to choose Delaneys five most popular wines for $10.
Insiders Tip:  Dont miss the Rhythm and Wine Event at Delaney held Thursday evenings from 6pm-9:30pm. Admission is just $10 and you can relax on the Crush Pad, sipping wine and listening to live blues and jazz music. Also, personal labeling is available with a 48-72 hour turn around.
