Wild Mountain Winery

Cold-hardy wines and vineyard camping on a working hillside vineyard in Taylors Falls, Minnesota

Best known for: Cold-hardy grape wines from dry to sweet

Wild Mountain Winery in Taylors Falls, Minnesota, pairs cold-hardy grape growing with an unusually practical perk: visitors can sleep within walking distance of the tasting room. This second-generation, veteran-owned business carries forward Alan and Judy Olson’s vision for the hillside property. Its Wild Vines Campground offers woodland and vineyard-edge tent sites, electric RV sites, furnished glamping tents, and an A-frame with heating and air conditioning. Shared restrooms and showers serve overnight guests; this is vineyard camping, not a hotel with grapevines.

The wines span dry reds through sweet whites and rosé. Wild River Red combines Marechal Foch and Frontenac with American oak, while Arrowhead Red pairs Marquette and Frontenac. The semi-sweet LaCrescent blends its namesake grape with Shannon, Prairie Star, and Frontenac Gris. That range makes the tasting room a useful stop for groups whose wine preferences rarely agree.

The tasting room opens year-round, with Saturday and Sunday service in winter and Fridays added in spring through fall. A patio overlooks the vineyard, and camping is seasonal. Wood-fired pizza accompanies many Saturdays during the camping season; Heggies pizzas provide a daily alternative. Walk-ins are welcome, while groups of six or more are asked to call ahead. Leashed dogs can join visitors outdoors, but not inside the tasting room.
