The Vine Yard
Ten estate-grown grape varieties in Leeds, Utah, with seated wine tastings and tapas
Best known for: Estate-grown reds, whites, and blends from Leeds, Utah
Roberto Alvarez’s The Vine Yard in Leeds, Utah, makes 15 wines from grapes grown in its own vineyard, with Spanish varieties sharing ground with French favorites and Zinfandel. The project draws on Alvarez’s family connection to wine through his father and Spanish grandfather, along with practical winemaking training in Ensenada, Mexico. Its strongest reason for a visit is concrete: a chance to taste Leeds-grown wine beside the vineyard that supplies it.
The vineyard grows six red grapes—Cariñena, Garnacha, Petite Sirah, Tempranillo, Syrah, and Zinfandel—and four whites: Albariño, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Viognier. Those ten varieties support both single-variety wines and blends, ranging from softer whites to full-bodied reds. That breadth makes this a useful stop for travelers interested in more than one style of Utah wine.
Tastings take place by appointment at 1282 North Shadow Lane. For $35 per person, guests receive wine and tapas at a dining table, detailed explanations of the wines and grape origins, and a visit to the winery and vineyard. The seated format makes this a stop to settle into rather than a quick counter tasting.
