Pineywoods Vineyard

Texas-only wines and Sabine County Blanc du Bois at Pineywoods Vineyard in Hemphill, Texas

Best known for: Texas-sourced wines with locally grown Blanc du Bois

Pineywoods Vineyard in Hemphill, Texas, pairs an all-Texas grape sourcing policy with a small Blanc du Bois vineyard near Toledo Bend Reservoir. Proprietors Chris and Jordan Cox anchor the family-owned operation, with Chris handling winemaking. The winery’s roots lie in their move from Houston after Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and Jordan’s multigenerational family ties to Sabine County. Their approximately 450 Blanc du Bois vines grow in acidic clay soils on the Sabine Uplift, with planting dating to March 2019.

Blanc du Bois gives Pineywoods its strongest local connection, while grapes from other Texas growers broaden the selection to reds, whites, rosé, sparkling wines, and sweet wines. The distinction matters: Texas fruit is the rule, but not every bottle comes from the family’s vineyard.

The visitor experience centers on the downtown Hemphill tasting room at 101 N. Oak St., rather than a seat among the vines. Indoor and outdoor seating, light snacks, and charcuterie make it a practical stop during a Toledo Bend weekend. Guided tastings typically take 45 minutes to an hour; wine flights offer four 2-ounce pours. The tasting room opens Friday through Monday, and reservations are strongly preferred, particularly on weekends and event days. Walk-ins depend on available space.
