Pali Wine Co. - Funk Zone Tasting Room
Cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and experimental natural wines in Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone
Best known for: Central Coast Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and experimental natural wines
Pali Wine Co.’s Funk Zone Tasting Room in Santa Barbara, California, pairs cool-climate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with the more experimental wines of Neighborhood Winery. The important detail for visitors is the address: tastings currently take place at 137 Anacapa Street, across the street from the flagship space at 205 Anacapa, which remains temporarily closed for renovation.
Behind the tasting room is a family-run winery with roots dating to 2005 and co-founders Tim and Judy Perr. Aaron Walker directs winemaking, and the estate’s 50-acre Pali Vineyard sits in the northwestern corner of the Sta. Rita Hills American Viticultural Area. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay anchor the estate, alongside Gamay, Syrah, Chenin Blanc, and Dornfelder. Nick and Carmen Perr lead Neighborhood Winery, whose wines ferment with native yeasts and receive no fining or filtration, with minimal sulfur added.
The appeal here is the range: familiar grape varieties share space with a natural-wine project that stretches beyond the usual Pinot-and-Chardonnay script. The lively tasting room offers flights, glasses, bottles, and wine to take home. Walk-ins are welcome, reservations are available, and daily afternoon service extends into the evening on Fridays and Saturdays.
