HOUSE OF SMITH - K Vintners
Charles Smith’s original K Vintners location in Walla Walla, Washington, with single-vineyard Syrah and historic farmland
Best known for: Washington single-vineyard Syrah and old-vine Chardonnay
K Vintners in Walla Walla, Washington, is the original winery location behind HOUSE OF SMITH, set on historic farmland at the base of the Blue Mountains. An adjacent farmhouse anchors the setting at 820 Mill Creek Road. This is a different stop from the company’s downtown Walla Walla tasting room: the draw here is the original property and its connection to winemaker Charles Smith’s beginnings.
Syrah is the center of gravity. K Vintners traces its roots to 330 cases of 1999 K Syrah and concentrates on small lots of single-vineyard wines—bottlings that keep the fruit from one vineyard separate. Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Tempranillo and Sangiovese broaden the focus, alongside blends. The grapes are hand-picked, fermented with naturally occurring yeasts and basket pressed. Named wines such as Phil Lane Syrah, Royal City Syrah and The Boy Grenache give the range its own vocabulary without requiring visitors to master it.
A visit takes some calendar planning. The original K Vintners location opens seasonally, with the 2026 season running April 3 through November 7 and visits limited to Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It belongs on a weekend itinerary, not a midweek tasting-room crawl.
