Horseshoe Bend Cellars Vineyard & Winery
Family-run countryside winery near Wichita Falls, Texas, pairing sweet fruit wines with dry reds and whites
Best known for: Sweet fruit wines alongside dry reds and whites
Horseshoe Bend Cellars Vineyard & Winery in Iowa Park, Texas, near Wichita Falls, gives sweet-wine drinkers as much room to explore as Cabernet fans. Linda and Scott Poenitzsch run the winery with their children, with family ownership dating to 2017. Scott and Gabriele handle winemaking, while other family members contribute food pairings, marketing, and logistics. The property sits between the Wichita River and Horseshoe Lake, with a working vineyard and a banquet-suite balcony overlooking the vines.
The range stretches from sweet selections such as Life’s a Peach, Pink Lady, and Concord to dry Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Desperado Red. Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Riesling, and traditional mead add more directions to explore. This is a useful stop for a group whose wine preferences rarely agree: sweetness is part of the appeal here, not an afterthought.
The tasting room opens Thursday through Sunday and welcomes children and dogs. A $10 tasting covers four chosen wines and two chocolate sauces; a $15 flight adds two chocolates and a mini charcuterie plate alongside four wines. Cheese and meat boards, pretzels, and sangria give visitors reasons to linger. Complimentary tours with Scott or Gabriele bring the production side into view, from fermentation tanks to barrel aging and bottling. Murder mystery dinners, painting nights, and wine-pairing events offer a livelier alternative to a quiet countryside tasting.
