Chestnut Oak Vineyard
Historic estate with handcrafted sparkling wines
Best known for: Estate-grown Bordeaux varieties and Viognier
Chestnut Oak Vineyard is located in the scenic Monticello AVA, just 20 minutes north of Charlottesville, Virginia. It offers a nice spot for wine lovers to visit and enjoy some local wines.
The vineyard was established in 2006, starting with the planting of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Manseng. Over time, they added Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viognier, and Nebbiolo to their lineup.
The vineyard uses careful, integrated farming techniques and is cultivated by hand under the guidance of a skilled management team. The winery produces a variety of estate-grown red wines, mainly from Bordeaux varieties, as well as a small amount of Viognier.
They also make sparkling wines from non-estate Chardonnay grapes, using traditional methods. The tasting room opened in September 2014 and provides a welcoming space for visitors to enjoy wine flights, glasses, or bottles, along with cheese plates or their own food.
The winery is owned by Janet Bolla and supported by winemaker David Eiserman. Chestnut Oak Vineyard remains a popular destination for both locals and visitors from out of town.
