Cannon Creek Vineyard

Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish on a family-run vineyard in Canton, East Texas

Best known for: Blanc du Bois and dry-to-sweet Black Spanish wines

Cannon Creek Vineyard in Canton, Texas, centers on two grapes worth getting to know: Blanc du Bois and Black Spanish, also called Lenoir. Owners Steve and Kelly run the winery on 28 acres of East Texas farmland, with roughly three acres of vines. The tasting room occupies a converted metal barn beside the farmhouse—a small-scale setting with room for 22 adults inside, plus seating on a covered patio and in the yard.

The wines give sweet-wine drinkers more than an afterthought without leaving dry-wine fans stranded. Estate-grown Blanc du Bois makes a sweet white, while Black Spanish appears in dry, semi-sweet, and sweet port-style versions. The 2022 port-style bottling reaches 19% alcohol. Beyond those vineyard staples, the dry 2023 Trebbiano and off-dry 2023 Montepulciano sparkling rosé offer lighter options. The 2022 Sangiovese takes a different direction, with whiskey-barrel aging and a toasted finish.

The vineyard sits seven miles south of Canton's square on State Highway 198, making it a straightforward side trip from First Monday Trade Days. Regular tasting room hours run Saturday and Sunday afternoons, 1–6 p.m., without reservations. Groups of 10 or more call ahead for seating. There is no food service, but visitors can bring snacks or a picnic.
