Broken X Winery
Family-run downtown Cisco, Texas, winery pairing sweet and dry wines with sandwiches on Salty Roan Bakehouse bread
Best known for: Sweet Moscato, dry reds, and frozen wine drinks
Broken X Winery in downtown Cisco, Texas, is a family-run stop for groups whose wine preferences rarely agree: dry Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot share space with sweet Moscato and frozen wine drinks. Ben and Niki usually handle the bar or greet visitors themselves. In operation since 2020, the winery takes its name from the family’s experience with their son Jake’s Fragile X Syndrome diagnosis.
The wines draw on Texas and California grapes, with choices extending beyond the usual sweet-versus-dry divide. Frazzled is a sparkling pink Moscato, Just Peachy combines grape wine with natural peach flavor, and Mourvèdre gets a semi-sweet treatment. Frappe Vino comes in sangria and peach flavors. Six-wine tastings let visitors explore the range without committing to a full glass of each.
The rustic tasting room at 516 Conrad Hilton Boulevard makes this a downtown stop rather than a vineyard outing. Food gives visitors a reason to linger: sandwiches use fresh, preservative-free bread from Salty Roan Bakehouse, with options such as Angus pastrami, Swiss, Muenster, and jalapeño dill sauce. Charcuterie boards suit the table-sharing crowd. Thursday and Friday service runs from late afternoon into the evening; Saturday starts at noon. Private events occasionally close the tasting room, with closure notices on Facebook.
