The Middleburg Virginia American Viticultural Area (AVA), founded in 2012, lies approximately 50 miles west of Washington, DC. The 198-square mile region is bounded by the Potomac River to the north and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west. Grapes grown in the region benefit from Blue Ridge Mountain winds that enter the region through the Ashby Gap. Thirty wineries, located in both Loudoun and Fauquier counties, call the region home.
