The Atlas Peak AVA is the southeastern-most, mountain AVA in Napa County with elevation of 760 to 2600 feet. Atlas Peak is significantly cooler than the nearby valley floor and typically produces wines with bright fruit flavors and relatively high acidity. Although the region was historically associated with mediocre Sangiovese, it now produces excellent Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition, Atlas Peak has joined Mount Veeder as one of Napa Valley’s best sources of Zinfandel. Atlas peak has about a dozen wineries with about half open for tasting, and most requiring appointments. Non-resident wineries such as Turley and Storybook make award winning Zinfandels using Atlas Peak grapes.
