The Review
Carolina Mist Winery is located in the heart of downtown Lenoir, NC. If youre looking for a winery with things to do after the tasting, and within walking distance, this is your place. There is much to do in this small town, whether it be antiquing, window shopping, or just tasting some delicious wine.
If the location doesn’t win you over, the experience inside Carolina Mist will. Carolina Mist has a very knowledgeable and friendly staff who can fill you in on all the “who, what, when, where, and why’s” of Carolina Mists winemaking adventure. Your barista will give you an offering of snack mix and chocolates to accompany your tasting. Yet, they also allow outside food into their establishment. The interior is cheerfully painted a bright yellow and has unique paintings on each wall. Their gift offerings are exceptional, and their selection, along with the décor, changes with the season. A groovy jazz melody added to the aesthetic appeal of this town center winery. One detail that was lacking is the view from the tasting bar. When you enter the winery, there is nice hexagonal shaped window facing the street. Unfortunately, you must enter into a separate partition to go inside the tasting room. If you purchase a glass of wine, there is additional seating outside of the tasting area that offers an acceptable view.
The wines youll find at Carolina Mist are typical North Carolina sweet wines with one or two exceptions. Their wines are very flavorful and contain the best available ingredients – one reason their wine menu is constantly fluctuating. Another reason is because this small winery thrives on local business. If their patrons like a wine, they keep it; if they dont, its gone.
Carolina Mist is a family-owned winery, and it shows. Because of this, on your first visit you will be planning your next. Their winemaking is done on-site, and if youre lucky you might get a glimpse of Ed Campbell himself making his wine behind the scenes. The price per bottle starts at $10.75 and goes up to $12.75. The tasting fee at Carolina Mist is $3 to taste seven wines or $6 to try their entire selection. If you don’t care for off-dry wines, you may want to pass on Carolina Mist, but for those who prefer a slightly sweeter, chilled wine, Carolina Mist is highly recommended.
