Toccata at Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards - Solvang

Italian grape varieties and estate-grown blends at Lucas & Lewellen’s downtown Solvang tasting room

Best known for: Italian grape varieties and estate-grown red blends

Toccata at Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards brings Italian grape varieties to downtown Solvang, California, with Pinot Grigio, Nebbiolo, Malvasia Bianca, and Sparkling Rosato. This is the Italian-focused side of the family winery, distinct from the Lucas & Lewellen tasting room directly across Copenhagen Drive. The draw is the chance to explore beyond the usual Chardonnay-and-Cabernet circuit without leaving town.

Winemaker Megan C. McGrath oversees production across the winery’s three estate vineyards in Santa Barbara County. Toccata’s wines emphasize sustainably farmed fruit and low-intervention winemaking, but Italian inspiration leaves room for experimentation. The 2021 Toccata Riserva, for example, combines estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon with Freisa, Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. It gives familiar Bordeaux grapes some less-familiar company.

The tasting room at 1650 Copenhagen Drive welcomes visitors daily, with walk-in tastings for parties smaller than seven. Standard tastings range from $20 to $25; library selections cost $35, and groups of seven or more pay $30 per person. Children and pets are welcome. Visitors who taste at either sister tasting room receive half off the regular tasting fee at the other—a useful reason to make this a two-stop visit on foot.
