Skies Over Texas Winery

100% Texas-grown wines in an Early tasting room built from reclaimed barn and shed materials

Best known for: Red, white, rosé and sweet wines from Texas-grown grapes

Skies Over Texas Winery in Early, Texas, pairs wines made entirely from Texas-grown grapes with a tasting room that puts salvaged materials to good use. Owners Moira and Brian McCue are behind this Brown County winery just north of the Texas Hill Country. Its roots reach back to an April 2017 debut as Spirit of Texas Winery; the Skies Over Texas name dates to August 2022. The selection spans reds, whites, rosé and sweet wines, with the 2021 Mourvèdre among the featured bottles.

The room itself deserves a look before the first pour. Wood from an old shed forms the walls and trim, barn tin adds texture, and the bar wraps around an existing beadboard cabinet. An aluminum boat hangs behind it, while mason-jar lights hang from old cattle panels overhead. This is a place for a glass and conversation rather than tasting-room ceremony, with outdoor seating, games and rocking chairs extending the visit.

Tastings cover six wines of the guest’s choice and generally take 35–45 minutes. Groups of up to four can walk in; parties of five or more contact the winery ahead. The tasting room opens Thursday through Sunday, with Thursday service beginning in late afternoon. Pizzas, paninis and light appetizers make it possible to linger beyond the tasting.
