San Pasqual Winery

Vibrant urban winery with diverse tasting experiences

Best known for: San Diego's first urban winery

San Pasqual Winery is a small, family-owned winery located in La Mesa, California, about 15 miles east of San Diego. Originally established in the 1970s in the San Pasqual Valley, the winery has been reinvented as San Diego's first urban winery.

The winery has earned recognition on Sunset Magazine's list of 'Hot 100 West Coast Trends.' With an annual production of three to four thousand cases, most of the wine is sold directly from the winery and its tasting room locations, creating a personal connection with customers.

They produce handcrafted wines in small lots, sourcing grapes from local vineyards and renowned viticulture regions across California. Their offerings include popular varietals like Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as lesser-known options such as Tannat and Teroldego.

Notably, San Pasqual Winery makes some unique wines, including passionfruit-based varieties. Their 'Hot Passion,' which is inspired by habanero peppers, complements the San Diego climate well.

The winery has received multiple awards, with standout wines like Tannat and Cabernet Franc earning double golds at prestigious competitions.

They operate from four different locations, each providing a different wine experience. The production winery at La Mesa Wine Works features live music and local food vendors, while the La Mesa Village location offers a cozy wine bar vibe. The Seaport Village tasting room boasts incredible views of San Diego Bay, and their newest spot, the Toast Bubble Bar, focuses on sparkling wines.

Owners Linda and Mike McWilliams transitioned from careers in education and psychology to winemaking. They are actively involved in the local wine community and continue to explore wine regions throughout California and abroad.
