Ridge View Winery
Ridge-top setting with sweeping valley vistas
Best known for: Unique wines from locally grown grapes
Ridge View Winery was established by Larry and Phyllis Hanold in 2000. It’s located in the scenic southwestern part of Brown County, Illinois, about 9.5 miles southwest of Mt. Sterling.
The winery sits on a ridge that rises 180 feet above the McKee Creek Valley, offering visitors stunning panoramic views of the surrounding wooded ridges.
It started with just four acres of Chardonel grapes but has since grown to over five acres, with more than 3,000 vines of various grape varieties including Frontenac, Marechal Foch, and GR-7.
The modern winery facility opened in 2007 and features a spacious tasting room, banquet room, and multiple outdoor decks. It’s a popular spot for weddings and other special events.
Ridge View Winery is recognized as a key destination along the Illinois River Wine Trail and the Western Illinois Wine Trail, offering a wine list that highlights the region’s rich flavors.
