Perdido Vineyards
Historic Alabama farm winery with a rich legacy
Best known for: Alabama's first farm winery since Prohibition
Perdido Vineyards, located in Perdido, Alabama, is recognized as the first farm winery in the state since Prohibition. Established in 1979 by Jim and Marianne Eddins, the winery has a rich history rooted in the cultivation of Muscadine grapes.
The vineyard spans 50 acres and was initially set up to produce grapes for Bartels Winery in Florida. Following the enactment of The Alabama Native Farm Winery Act of 1979, Perdido Vineyards became the first bonded winery in Alabama, producing unique table wines and fortified wines from local fruits.
In 2002, the winery expanded its offerings to include award-winning wine vinegars. Jim Eddins, a former Marine, has been a pivotal figure in advocating for the winery industry in Alabama, working tirelessly to improve legislation for local wineries.
