Mount Tehama Winery
Volcanic soils and dry farming in a historic estate setting
Best known for: Dry farmed estate vineyard in volcanic soils
Mount Tehama Vineyard is an independently owned estate vineyard located in the Manton Valley AVA of Northern California. The vineyard was established in 1982 and sits at an elevation of 2,660 feet.
The soil here is volcanic, a reminder of the once-mighty Mount Tehama, and it plays a big role in the character of the wines. The Manton Valley AVA, which was officially established on August 1, 2014, covers 9,800 acres and is known for its unique volcanic terroir.
The vineyard itself is 10 acres and grows a variety of grapes, including Petite Sirah, Shiraz, and Chardonnay. They are committed to organic and sustainable farming practices, practicing dry farming methods and ensuring all grapes are hand-picked in a clean environment.
