Kongsgaard Wine
Historic family vineyard with low-intervention, small-batch winemaking
Best known for: Exceptional Chardonnay and limited production s
Kongsgaard Wine was founded by fifth-generation Napa natives John and Maggy Kongsgaard. Their journey began in the 1970s with the planting of the Judge vineyard, where they established Chardonnay vines on family land in the hills east of Napa.
Their first vintage was released in 1996. About a decade later, their son Alex and winemaker Evan Frazier joined the partnership, continuing the family legacy.
The winery specializes in small-batch production, mainly focusing on two Chardonnays: The Judge and a Napa Valley bottling. They also produce limited quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Albariño.
Their vineyards are intensively farmed, and they use low-intervention winemaking techniques. This approach results in wines that are both powerful and graceful, clearly expressing their vineyard origins and varietal character.
