Joyce Wine Company - Estate Winery and Tasting Room

Low-intervention Monterey County wines at the former Ventana Winery estate in California’s Arroyo Seco

Best known for: Low-intervention, cool-climate wines from Monterey County

Joyce Wine Company’s estate winery and tasting room in Soledad, California, puts owner and winemaker Russell Joyce’s work in the heart of the Arroyo Seco American Viticultural Area (AVA). This is the former Ventana Winery property, where Joyce combines restoration of the old winery with new vineyard plantings and the preservation of older vine blocks. A 2020 handshake agreement with Ventana’s former partners marks the start of this chapter for the family business.

A self-taught winemaker, Joyce focuses on cool-climate Monterey County wines shaped by rocky soils, strong winds and marine influence. Gamay noir and aromatic white varieties are part of the new planting work with the original Ventana Vineyard owners. The local focus extends beyond the estate: all long-term fruit contracts are with neighboring family-owned vineyards within 10 miles. Organic farming practices and winemaking without additions such as acid, enzymes or cultured yeast guide the production approach.

The estate location at 38740 Los Coches Road is distinct from Joyce’s separate Carmel Valley tasting room. The Soledad tasting room closes for winter, making confirmation of seasonal opening dates essential before a drive.
