Janemark Winery & Vineyard
Historic 1930s tasting barn set in lush vineyard surroundings
Best known for: Handcrafted wines from a family-owned vineyard
Janemark Winery & Vineyard is located in Southern Prince Georges County, Maryland. It’s a family-owned place started by Jane and Mark Vogt. Their history with the land goes back to 1877 when Jane’s great-great-grandparents farmed it as a tobacco farm.
Today, they make handcrafted wines that reflect the rich history and the fertile soil of their estate. After marrying in 1986, Jane and Mark moved to Napa, California, where their passion for winemaking grew. They eventually returned to Maryland to start their own family and bring some Napa Valley style to the East Coast.
They’re committed to sustainability. They turned former tobacco fields into vineyards that now produce some of Maryland’s best grapes. The winery has two vineyards: Foxes Den Vineyard, which grows Albariño, Vidal, and Chambourcin, and Four Degrees Vineyard, home to Barbera and Petit Manseng.
The tasting barn, which was restored with help from the Amish and dates back to the 1930s, serves as a welcoming spot for visitors to enjoy a variety of wines.
Since starting with just 165 cases in their garage in 2016, they’ve grown steadily. Now, they produce about 1,500 cases annually in their production barn, built in 2020.
