Henry Estate Winery

Historic family winery with groundbreaking vineyard techniques

Best known for: World-class wines and innovative trellis systems

Henry Estate Winery, located in the picturesque Umpqua Valley, is a family-owned operation that has been a pioneer in the region's wine industry.

The Henry family was among the first to see the potential of the Umpqua Valley for viticulture. They took advantage of the area's diverse climate and soil types to grow high-quality grapes.

Calvin Scott Henry III, who returned to his roots after a successful career as an aeronautical engineer, led the effort to establish the winery. In 1972, he and his family planted the original 12 acres of grapes, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Gewürztraminer.

By 1980, the winery was producing its own wines, which quickly gained recognition. Scott Henry developed an innovative trellis and canopy-management system, known as the Scott Henry Trellis System, which has helped optimize grape maturation at Henry Estate and has been adopted by vineyards around the world.

Today, Henry Estate Winery is known for its commitment to quality and innovation in the vineyard and winery.
