Gray Pine Winery

Rustic charm amidst scenic Sierra Foothills countryside

Best known for: Specializing in Bordeaux red varietals

Named for the native California Gray Pine, Gray Pine Vineyard & Winery is a small, limited-production winery located in Penn Valley, California, in the Sierra Foothills.

With an annual production of approximately 350 cases, the winery grows its own grapes on a two-acre vineyard and specializes in Bordeaux red varietals. They produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and a classic Bordeaux-style Red Blend called PennRidge.

The winery focuses on creating food-friendly wines with balanced acid and tannins, embodying the classic Bordeaux style. Their first vintage was in 2011.

The tasting room is open most weekends, and visitors are encouraged to check the website for specific availability and to make appointments for tours and tastings.

Guests can enjoy a tranquil experience as they navigate the narrow, uneven country roads leading to the winery. It is situated at 19396 Branding Iron Road, approximately half a mile from the main road.

The winery is known for its beautiful surroundings and the charm of its rustic access route. Visitors are advised to drive slowly and carefully due to the bumps, dips, and potholes on the road.
