Future Perfect Wine

Small-lot Santa Barbara County wines and traditional-method sparklers in Los Olivos, California

Best known for: Small-lot Santa Barbara County wines and traditional-method sparkling wines

Winemaker and owner Sunny Doench Stricker gives Future Perfect Wine in Los Olivos, California, a distinctly personal identity: small-lot Santa Barbara County wines, a disco ball at the tasting room, and no allegiance to a single grape. She sources hand-harvested fruit from local vineyards practicing sustainable, organic and/or biodynamic farming. Her winemaking mentors include Jessica Gascа of Story of Soil and Peter Hunken of Holus Bolus and The Joy Fantastic.

The range stretches from dry Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc to Grenache rosé, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Syrah. Sparkling wine gets serious attention, too, with Brut Rosé, Blanc de Noirs and Blanc de Blanc made by the traditional method—the bottle-fermentation process used in Champagne. For travelers whose tastes run beyond the usual Pinot-and-Chardonnay circuit, that breadth is a reason to stop.

The tasting room occupies a spacious interior with an outdoor porch on the east side of Los Olivos, at 2933 San Marcos Avenue, Suite 101. Tastings cost $35 per person, with daily service from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations are strongly encouraged; the last online booking is at 3:30 p.m., and walk-in tastings end at 4 p.m. when space permits. Children and leashed dogs are welcome.
