East Grove Farms

Historic farm with Underground Railroad legacy

Best known for: Specializing in mead and wine production

Established in 2011, East Grove Farms is one of only two meaderies in Iowa, known for its unique offerings of mead and wine crafted from homegrown fruits.

The farm is rich in history, featuring a 19th-century Victorian farmhouse that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The farm was originally established in 1837 and has a significant connection to the Underground Railroad, serving as a key stop for freedom seekers.

East Grove Farms specializes in elderberries and aronia berries, alongside heirloom varieties of plums, peaches, and apples.

The winery is set to retire its mead and wine business when its current license expires on August 13, 2025, but it continues to welcome visitors on weekends and by appointment.
