Blissful Folly Farm

Texas’s oldest meadery and a farm brewery sharing a family-run home in La Grange

Best known for: Mead and seasonal fruit-and-herb beers and ciders

Blissful Folly Farm in La Grange, Texas, is home to Rohan Meadery, the state’s oldest meadery, and La Grange Brewing Co. This family-owned farm makes mead, wine, beer, and cider, giving mixed-preference groups more options than a wine-only stop. Mead—an alcoholic drink fermented from honey—is a particular focus. Seasonal fruits and herbs shape many of the drinks, with some ingredients grown on the property.

Wendy and John Rohan bring backgrounds in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and software architecture to the operation. The farm itself is more than a backdrop: a vineyard, beehives, and peach, pear, apricot, and pomegranate trees share the property with goats, sheep, donkeys, and free-ranging poultry. Spent brewing grains feed the goats and sheep, and the farm is certified pollinator-friendly.

The tap room opens Friday through Sunday, with four-selection tastings for $15 and no reservations needed for groups smaller than 10. Weather permitting, weekends also offer self-guided farm tours. Children have a playset and lawn games; leashed dogs are welcome if they can handle chickens and guinea fowl. Outside picnics are allowed, though outside alcohol is not. A small scratch kitchen provides another option, with longer waits during busy periods and service ending an hour before the tap room closes.
