Black Birch Vineyard
Crafting award-winning wines in a scenic vineyard setting
Best known for: Award-winning wines and hands-on winemaking
Black Birch Vineyard, located in Hatfield, Massachusetts, is the brainchild of winemakers Ian Modestow and Michelle Kersbergen.
Their journey into winemaking began in 1990 during a visit to the Loire Valley in France, where they developed a deep appreciation for grape-growing culture and the art of winemaking.
Over the years, they have traveled extensively, learning various winemaking traditions and methods from renowned regions such as Burgundy, Champagne, Napa, and Tuscany.
Today, they operate a 12-acre vineyard and produce five award-winning wines, utilizing high-density planting methods and a commitment to quality.
Their philosophy emphasizes an authentic, hands-on approach to crafting exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Connecticut Valley region.
