Amoritas Vineyards
Family-run Lake Leelanau estate winery focused on hand-farmed whites from sandy hillside vineyards
Best known for: Estate-grown Leelanau whites fermented in stainless steel
Amoritas Vineyards is a family-run estate winery in Lake Leelanau on Michigan’s Leelanau Peninsula, built around fruit grown, tended, and harvested by hand on the property. The Goodell family planted the vineyard on the French Road Plains of Centerville Township, where rolling hills and sandy loam soils suit the bright white wines that make the region worth paying attention to. Everything starts with estate-grown grapes, and the cellar work leans clean and straightforward, with fermentation in stainless steel tanks and a range that runs from dry to sweet.
The winery’s personality is tied closely to the land and the family behind it. Amoritas began with the abandoned homestead of the Amore family and a stretch of acreage overlooking South Lake Leelanau that still feels a little wild despite being only about ten minutes from Cedar, Lake Leelanau, and Suttons Bay. In the tasting room on East Duck Lake Road, the experience stays casual rather than precious: flights of three to four wines and ciders, small bites, indoor seating, outdoor seating on a covered porch, and room for both walk-ins and larger groups with reservations. For travelers who want more than a quick pour across a bar, Amoritas also leans into the vineyard setting with private tastings among the vines.
