Straddling Highway 128, the Yorkville Highlands lie geographically and climatically between the cooler Anderson Valley to the north and the warmer Alexander Valley to the south. While the Yorkville Highlands’ average temperature is warmer than Anderson Valley, it night temperatures are usually cooler than the night temperatures of its northern neighbor. The vineyards in this AVA are typically located between 1000 and 2000 feet on highly porous, gravelly soils. The combination of deep, well-drained soils and cold nights results in grapes with good complexity and acidity.
